The Area

Courtauly is situated in the Aude department, in the province of Languedoc, six kilometers from the western border with Ariege.

Mirepoix – in the Ariege, is a late thirteenth century bastide (walled town) built around a lovely market square.   http://www.tourisme-mirepoix.com

Limoux – is fast becoming a notable wine capitol, with their Blanquette, and a growing number of top quality reds.  http://www.limoux.fr

Carcassonne – a very cosmopolitan city, is the home of the famed La Cite, one of the most spectacular castles in Europe.

The historic Midi Canal is just 30 minutes away, and offers hourly, luncheon, and day trips, along with restaurants along the Canal where you can relax and watch the boats pass by, and then too, throughout the area, there are more than half a dozen spectacular Cathare sites like Peyrepertuse, Queribus, and Mont Segur to explore.

The Tour de France is in our area again this year - starting in Muret, near Toulouse on the 17th of July (1 hour away) en route 200 kms to Rodez - not as close as they usually come to us, but still easily within driving distance with many opportunities to experience the world renowned classic French event.

And you can have your own Tour de France if you like – we are in a great area for family cycling at all levels - and we can arrange top quality bike rentals for you, by the day, or week, allowing you to experience trails like the nearby Voies Verte, which travels along an abandoned scenic railway line, complete with a ride-through tunnel, through 30 kilometers of beautiful countryside, and towns, ending up at Lavelanet.

And, there are traditional French markets nearby, in different towns and villages every day of the week -  all this in an area that is unbelievable, with its spectacular sites and people.

We invite you to come and experience Chez-Georges.
